Bedford Revisited

  • Red Number Two

Besides the guys at Red Number Two, the star of the shoot was a run-down flatbed Bedford truck lying in a field outside Jyväskylä. The gear used for this shoot was really basic. If I recall right, it was EOS-1D with Sigma 15-30 wide angle zoom through a ttl-cord into a Sigma Super flash in a Photoflex extra small softbox.
It's when you go back to old photos that you realize how much camera technology has evolved. The 4 megapixel CCD-sensor in the 1D can't really handle the skies as well as any modern DSLR can. Nevertheless, there's something about the Bedford's character coupled with Red Number Two that goes beyond the non-perfect gradations in the sky and generally weaker dynamic range than in today's cameras.

These pictures are product of their time, just like Ilford's and Tri-X's of analog days gone by.

(All pictures: Canon EOS-1D, Sigma EX15-30)

Update: Red Number Two has finished recording their first full length album, which should be out when they've sorted out the distribution issues and other hoohah the musicians have to subject themselves to these days. http://www.myspace.com/rednumbertwo
